I was looking at the World Herald today and I read some more pulse letters sent in by closed-minded morons. And I was so fed up with it, I felt it was my duty to respond to these people. So, I wrote an e-mail and sent it to the pulse. Hopefully, it will be printed, but you never know. It should. I think it will open some people's eyes and generate some responses at the very least. I'm going to post it here incase it dosen't get printed. Here it is:
"I am deeply disturbed by the enormous number of people in Nebraska who refuse to think for themselves. People proclaim left and right about how homosexuality is a sin and is immoral. My question is this: how, exactly, is homosexuality immoral? No one I've talked to has an explanation other than "The bible says it is." It baffels me how people can unquestioningly accept something that doesn't make logical sense. Homosexuality is nothing more and nothing less than love between two people. How can love be a sin? If two people of the same sex are in love with eachother, how can that be immmoral? No one is hurt by it. Loving another person does not cause pain in yourself and others. So, what is so wrong about homosexuality that it justifies denying the rights of hard-working citizens of the united States?
People need to decide on their own what their morals are, and not blindly accept what they are told. I understand why other things are prohibited in the bible; they cause people pain. But I just can not see how homosexuality causes pain. It may cause discomfort in individuals who are not used to it, but I would hardly call discomfort for a few people grounds to declare something immoral.
Is there anyone who can explain how love can be so sinful? After all, morals and laws should be based on reasoning and understanding rather than being accepted without question."
It was pretty difficult to make that non-offensive to stupid people. And I tried to find arguments that they can't ignore or explain away with a bunch of stupid shit. Although I'm probably going to get some "God is wiser and knows better than we do, that is why we should obey him" moron that responds. The war against ignorance will never be over. But at least I may enlighten a few people.
