People are just so freakin' irritating! They're frustrating as hell and don't make any damn sense what-so-ever!
So, we had auditions for Eric's show. We had a few girls show up, and most of them were really good. Eric was trying to find ways to use all the really good women that auditioned. And then we had a grand total of 5 guys audition . . .
Well, in the show, there are 7 male roles, plus some bit parts and some dancing crowd roles. I'm already cast, so we needed 6 guys AT LEAST to fill the parts. We got 5. And then, one of the guys that showed up is in his mid-40's, despite the fact that the ad for auditions specified 20's - early 30's, so Eric can't really cast him. That means that 4 guys auditioned for 6 roles.
Then one of the 4 dropped out because he "doesn't do shows that would be a PG-13 if they were movies"
. . .
Ok, what are we? 5 years old? Theater does NOT equal Disney, people! How the hell can you have any sort of semi-realistic portreyal of men and women in their 20's - 30's and not expect sex or language to come into the picture!?
Fuckin' amazing . . .
So, now there are 3 men to fill 6 roles. But, you know, if all the people who had TOLD Eric they wanted to do the show actually stuck to what they said, we'd HAVE all the damn people we need! But no, people keep backing out of the show, and it's driving Eric nuts, and it's driving me nuts, and I'm sure it's driving Melanie nuts.
Besides, since when is it such a damn hassle to find young gay guys to do theater, huh!? WHAT THE HELL!?
Ads for auditions were in the Omaha World Herald for at least two weeks. Ads were posted in the TAG newsletter, which goes to pretty damn near every theater nut in the area. Ads were spread around to every person Eric, Melanie, and I know!
And we have a handful of people audition. No, not a handful; less than that, whatever it is. The only people we turned down were the 2 people who were quite obviously too old to fit any of the roles, and we're STILL short on people!
I mean, aren't auditions there so you can pick JUST the right person? Hell, talking with Eric, no one really fit the main roles, and he was relegated to deciding who would require the least work in order to kinda, maybe fit his idea of the character.
And what worries me the most is that if so few people were interested in auditioning, how many people are actually going to be interested in coming to the show? Despite all this publicity, no one seemed to care. People that said they cared, evidently decided later that they didn't.
Hell, the only friends of mine that came to see the last show I was in are the same 3 people that make up the auditionees for Eric's show!
I'm just so damn frustrated! I want this to be a success! I want this to be good because it IS GOOD! It's a freaking AMAZING script! It's the kind of play that makes me want to be an actor!
And no one seems to give a damn.
And it's depressing.
And it pisses me off.
And I'm not even in charge of it. I can't imagine what this is doing to Eric. He doesn't deserve all this shit.
