Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

Many Things

Well, the last two days I've had a temp job. And, YES, the job actually lasted two days. Originally I was told about 6 hours, but then it turned into about 10 hours split between two days, so that's good, I guess.

I worked at the Douglas Building downtown. One of the office groups there moved floors, and needed someone to move all their old files to storage areas in the parking garage. So, I got to move about a billion big heavy boxes full of random paperwork from an empty office floor to deep in the catacombs of the parking garage. I got to ride the psychotic elevator all day long. First of all, whenever the elevator was going up, there was a white arrow pointing up. Whenever it was going to go down, there was a red arrow pointing down. Along with the creepy catacomb/dungeonous storage area, it was like it was telling me I was going to hell. Then, the elevator buttons would randomly flash, and the elevator would jerk around all the time. I swear it was possessed, and I was always sure that it was going to fail and plummet down the 3 whole stories to my doom.

But, wow, was that some exhausting work. They tried to bring in someone to help me, but it was too short of notice. Oh well, more hours for me.

So yeah, I'm still sore. And the whole time I was cursing about what they could've possibly been filling these boxes with to make them so damn heavy. But still! I was working! Physically! It was kinda like getting paid to exercise! WOOOOHOOOO!

And after that ordeal was finally over, I went to my interview at the Red Cross. They hired me on the spot. But, well, I'm not as excited as I probably should be. I mean, it sounds like a great job. The thing is, though, that it's only 16 hours a week. Yeah, not enough to survive on, so I'd have to find ANOTHER part time job, and hope the schedule doesn't conflict.

I don't know how the hell I'm going to do that. Plus, Westaff has been getting me random jobs pretty consistently. I mean, just 15 minutes ago they called to hook me up with work for tomorrow (I get to be interviewed by people practicing giving interviews. And I get PAID for it! How crazy is that?). They told me they were looking at a position for me that would be full-time. But now that the Red Cross hired me, what do I tell them?

I want to work at the Red Cross, but I NEED more than 16 hours! GAAAH!

Man, if anything were actually simple, life sure would be boring.
