Fumbling Towards Ecstasy

Updates:

Well, the events that cut my last post short . . . well . . . lets just say the issue has calmed, but is faaar from resolved. Right now its a bit too personal even to put on here, so I'm going to wait till either it can't wait, or the issue becomes more public through other sources . . .

Anyway, where I left off. So far, my summer has been far more eventful than I thought it would be. I've actually had things to do rather than just sit on my ass and play PS2. It's been quite surprising. I ended up eeing Van Helsing two nights in a row. Not neccesarily because I thought it was good, I was just invited to see it twice. The movie is . . . ok. It's fairly enjoyable if you don't have any expectations for it. Aside from one or two glaring plot holes (Duh, what did you THINK you'd use a light bomb for when hunting vampires, and since when do vampires reproduce sexually?) I do appreciate that they had a Mary Shelly-esque Frankenstein's Monster rather than the Classic Universal Frankenstien. And Kate Beckinsale kicks so much ass that even I'd do her. She is sooo the next hollywood action hero(ess?). My main complaint, though, if you're going to do EVERY action sequence in an action movie using digital rendering, why don't you just do the WHOLE movie using computer animation!? But yeah, I didn't think it was going to be any good, so I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be not that bad.

I went to the One-Act festival at MN on Saturday. I must say that 4 out of the 6 were rather . . . draggy. They just needed to pick up the pace of the shows. But all had good performances; I was impressed. The play my siser was in was probably my favorite because it drug the least, had, by far, the best performances, and the story was the most captivating. I mean, for high schoolers to pull off mentally handicapped characters is amazing. Sure, it was like sitting through a D.I. round, but it was a FINALS D.I. round. Very nice. I just wish my sister had more of a role. She had a brief, 30 second monologue while the other 4 people on stage went on for 5-10 minutes each. And my sister is good. She really is. I don't understand why she doesn't get more roles . . .

And I went to see Shrek 2 tonight, which was very, very cool. And I actually got to work with Alan on my character for ShadowRun. It's funny because he expects me to know a lot of things, but then repeats all the stuff he's already told me. Oh well, at least I'm getting somewhere with it. I haven't had much of a chance to work on it until now. I only have a very vague idea of how I want the character to be. I just have to learn more about the ShadowRun world to fine tune it and make it work. I'm trying to make this character very different from anything I've played before. So, no sexual inclinations, no haughty arrogance, no magical interests. It's challenging because he'll have very little in common with me as a person . . . but it should make things very interesting. Besides, taking on another character's persona is good practice for acting.

Ohhhhh, I need some sort of goals for this summer. It's too long to just aimlessly spend my time. But yeah, time to go play more PS2 till I fall asleep.
