Neither of these is very cheap. And I have around 2 months of work left in order to save money. Now, I figure I can get a decent computer for a little less than $1000. Hell, I'll take almost anything as long as it works better than my old one, AND has one of those spiffy flat monitor things so my desk at school isn't half taken up by just my monitor. Besides, my brother and I went to Mega Mart a few weeks ago, and they have some nice deals there. If anyone else has any good ideas of where to get good computers, let me know.
Anyway, I also need a car. Nothing fancy, just something that will last me about a year and a half or so. This is just a car to last me the school year and until I can save up enough to get a REAL car that will actually last me a while. My dad said before when I wanted to get Mara's car that to get a loan I'd have to come up with at least a downpayment. Well, I figure on a $2000 car (what I expect to spend) that $500 is a pretty decent downpayment.
So, I'm looking at around $1500 that I need before I go back to school. So lets do the math, shall we? I have the entire month of July, and practically all of August (School starts the 30th) to work. Lately my paychecks have been averaging at slightly over $400 with taxes taken out. So, 2 months, I'll get 4 paychecks. At $400 each, that nets me $1600! Rock! A whopping $100 more than I need!
But that means that I can't spend ANYTHING for the rest of the summer . . . which we all know is NOT going to happen.
Shit.
Ok, so I can probably limit myself to $50 a paycheck. I'll just keep myself to a bare spending minimum. I'll have money for a few movies and the occassional food run when hanging out with people. That'll work, right? I think so. I don't really have anything else I NEED to buy anyway. Ok, so now I have 4 $350 paychecks to work with. So that's . . . $1400. Not bad. That I can work with . . . Plus my $250 bonus for working during last semester, and that puts be back up at $1650. Rock!
Oh yeah . . . I still owe my brother $150 . . . and I still owe Tabby around $70 . . . Ok . . . that takes me back down to (I HATE doing math in my head). . . $1430 . . . Hmmm . . .
Ok, so I need $500 for car downpayment, so that means I have . . . $930 to spend on a computer. I can work with that, right? I think so. Hell, I got my last computer for $600 and it worked just fine for me. And with the rate computers are going these days, I can get an even better computer than my old one for the same price. So yeah, I think that works.
But then I have to think about Car liscense and registration . . . and insurance . . . which will be expensive . . . Fuck . . .
But my birthday is coming up! Yeah! So, for my birthday, I'll just be all, "Mom, Dad, just give me $500 and we'll call it good for my birthday, ok?" Yeah, that sounds good! If my parents can actually afford to do that . . . *sigh* Well, there's always my grandma. Yeah, grandma could help. Rock.
So, yeah, that's where my financial situation is right now. There's lots of stuff I'd like to buy, but I know its not terribly neccesary right now. So it can wait. And if I still want it later when I can afford it, I can get it then. Hell, those things will probably be cheaper then anyway. Good deal.
